Mission seeks Summer Students

The Mile End Community Mission is looking to hire four summer students! All candidates must be Canadian citizens enrolled in full-time post-secondary education in fall of 2017. The positions begin May 8 and continue full-time until August 25.  Interested applicants can send their CV and cover letter to general@mileendmission.org by May 1, 2017, indicating which position(s) they are applying for.

 

Community Activities Animator

In collaboration with the Mission team and with the Community Activities Technician, the Activities Animator will: 1) focus on developing, promoting and animating: special intergenerational summer activities for our members including two special outings, summer BBQs, local outings to the swimming pool, Jazz festival etc. 2) Assist in developing and animating activities for our program for children and teens with special needs. 3) Help the team in planning and animating our annual Open House event, 4) provide information and referral services to disadvantaged individuals in the community, and 5) work with members to develop articles about the Mission for a new one-page newsletter targeting local business donors & community partners as well as for our Mission Possible newsletter in the fall.  Any additional special talents will also be appreciated: baking, cooking, playing an instrument etc. Candidates must be fully bilingual Canadian citizens enrolled in full-time post-secondary education in fall of 2017.

 

Community Activities Technician

In collaboration with the Mission team and with the Community Activities Technician, the Activities Animator will: 1) focus on technical (computer) and administrative work: reception and answering the telephone, promote and register members for summer events and activities, assist in maintaining  social media presence regarding our summer activities, develop posters and promotional material for our fall Thanksgiving dinner, help to organize the Mission’s photos and souvenirs, update our information & referral guides for staff and members, develop program information cards/schedules for members, help plan, promote and participate in our Open House and other events, organize the office & certain office systems. Strong computer/social media skills including MS Office and Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator are essential. . Any additional special talents will also be appreciated: baking, cooking, playing an instrument etc. Candidates must be Canadian citizens enrolled in full-time post-secondary education in fall of 2017.

 

Community / Development Coordinator

In collaboration with the Mission team and with the Community Development Worker, the Coordinator will : 1) Help develop &  carry out strategies to increase awareness and sales at our’ Friperie Joyce’ summer-bazaars.; 2) Help develop articles about the Mission for a new one-page newsletter targeting local business donors & community partners as well as for our Mission Possible newsletter in the fall; 3) Help develop, coordinate and participate in our Open House activities, 4) Help promote our ‘Shine a Light on Poverty’ fundraising campaign. The candidate will also maintain an active presence in daily life at the Mission and will join staff and members on group summer outings to the beach, Granby Zoo and local events and activities in the community. Any additional special talents will also be appreciated: baking, cooking, playing an instrument etc. Candidates must be fully bilingual Canadian citizens enrolled in full-time post-secondary education in fall of 2017.

 

Community / Development Worker

In collaboration with the Mission team and with the Community Development Coordinator, the Development Worker will focus on the technical and administrative work needed to accomplish our summer community development projects. This work includes: website updating, development and formatting of articles for 2 newsletters, development of posters & other promotional material, engaging in social media outreach for our upcoming events, etc. The candidate will also maintain an active presence in daily life at the Mission and will join staff and members on group summer outings to the beach, Granby Zoo and local events and activities in the community. Strong computer skills including MS Office, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator and WordPress are essential. Any additional special talents will also be appreciated: baking, cooking, playing an instrument etc. Candidates must be Canadian citizens enrolled in full-time post-secondary education in fall of 2017.
